“At the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’—which means, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ When some of those standing near heard this, they said, ‘Listen, he’s calling Elijah.’ Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink. ‘Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,’ he said. With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.” (Mark 15:33-39)

Introduction

Good morning, beloved of the Lord!

Good Friday is a moment of solemn remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It is a day to deeply consider the immense agony and the subsequent victory manifest through the cross. On this day, humanity was redeemed at an immeasurable price, and the mystery of God’s love was revealed in a sublime and transcendent way.

Reflection

Christ’s journey to the cross was painful and full of meaning. On that day, He endured not only extreme physical suffering but also spiritual separation as He bore the weight of the world’s sins. Jesus, in His obedience and love, accomplished the reconciliation between God and humanity. He cried out in His pain: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”—an echo of Psalm 22, which foreshadowed this moment of apparent abandonment that, paradoxically, would bring creation into reconciliation.

The death of Jesus not only opened the way for the forgiveness of sins but also tore the temple veil, symbolizing the end of separation between God and mankind. In His final breath, He declared the completion of the redemptive work, ensuring us direct access to the Father. Our response must be reverence and gratitude for the sacrifice that won our freedom. We now live in hope and victory, called to reflect His glory with transformed lives, recognizing that our old selves were crucified with Him and that now we are made new.

APPLICATION FOR TODAY:

✅ Contemplate the Sacrifice of Christ — Take a moment of silence to meditate on the depth of the love revealed on the cross.

✅ Live in the Reality of the Cross — Let the truth of Christ’s death transform your daily life as you live in gratitude and service.

✅ Proclaim the Hope of the Resurrection — Share with others the hope that Christ’s death brings, pointing them to the joy of the resurrection.

Beloved of the Lord!

May the peace of Christ renew your hope and strengthen your faith at the beginning of this year! Let’s reflect together on the Word of God.

Bible Reading:

Lamentations 3:22-23

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Central Theme: Restarting with God – The True Essence of a “New Year”

Reflection:

The arrival of a new year is often surrounded by an idea of “magic,” as if the mere change of calendars has the power to change our lives. We make lists of resolutions, hang decorations, and fill ourselves with hope that, somehow, “this time will be different.” But, in reality, the true power of transformation in our lives does not lie in dates or human traditions. There is nothing mystical or magical about a new year. What really matters is the God who gives us new opportunities to start over every day, including at the beginning of a new cycle.

In the words of the prophet Jeremiah, we are reminded that what has not allowed us to perish is God’s mercy. He, in His faithfulness, renews His mercies daily, giving us not just a “new year,” but the chance for a new beginning every morning. This is the true “magic” – not a human enchantment, but the grace of God that enables us to live with purpose.

The beginning of a new year is an appropriate time to reflect: how have we been directing our lives? Where are we dedicating our time, energy, and heart? Instead of getting lost in lists of empty desires or pursuits of external changes, this is the moment to focus on the essential and eternal: our relationship with God. We should use this time to prioritize reading the Word, growing in prayer, and renewing our commitment to being blessings in the lives of others.

Entering a new year does not mean achieving perfection, but it is an opportunity to reassess what drives us and who we are becoming. We can be better – yes, we can grow! But this only happens if we let Jesus guide every aspect of our lives. May our resolutions be more spiritual than material and reflect the sincerity of our desire to glorify God in everything we do.

As it is written in Romans 12:2, we are called not to conform to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Let this be your milestone for this year: seeking true renewal, the kind that comes from the Word and the Holy Spirit. There is no “magic” that can do this for us – but there is a loving, faithful, and sovereign Lord who promises to be with us every step of the way.

Daily Application:

Reevaluate your priorities: Take a moment today to set your spiritual goals for this year. Ask yourself: What can I do to grow in the knowledge of God and be more like Christ?

Prioritize prayer and Bible reading: The only way to be transformed is through intimacy with God. Schedule daily time for prayer and Bible study. Consider making a Bible reading plan for the year.

Be a blessing in the lives of others: Throughout this year, commit to thinking about how your words and actions can reflect the love of Jesus. Offer support, listening, or acts of kindness to those around you.

Depend on God’s mercies: Whenever you feel like you are failing, remember that the Lord’s mercies are new every morning. Trust in this truth and keep walking with hope.

Prayer:

Beloved Lord, thank You for Your mercies, which are renewed every day. I acknowledge that there is nothing magical about a new year, but there is great hope in You, who are faithful and constant. Help me in this new cycle to be more committed to You, focused on Your Word, and renewed through prayer. May my goals be guided by Your purpose and may my life be a reflection of Your love. Use me, Lord, to be a blessing in the lives of others, and may I live this year with gratitude and faith. In the name of Jesus, amen.

May your new year begin not with the search for “magic,” but with trust in a God who transforms and renews our hearts with His infinite mercies. May the Lord bless and guide you richly in 2025!
